In Defense of Dr. Laura Schlessinger

I don’t agree with 100% of what Dr. Laura says or does. I don’t like how she repeated the n-world. She’s not Black and just because brash comedians use the word doesn’t mean society as a whole is comfortable with it. I agree with about 80% of the advice Dr. Laura gives callers. Sometimes she comes off as cranky and short, but overall, society will be deprived of a strong voice of reason and morals when she goes off the air.

Dr. Laura has impacted millions of lives for the better. I have friends who have called into the show and received life-changing advice that helped them heal wounds and move on in a healthy direction.

Dr. Laura also champions authors who have an important message to share with the world and need help getting that message heard. On January 5, 2010, Dr. Laura featured my book, Stop Overeating Today! You can listen to her commentary here: Dr. Laura said …

In a nutshell, she said my book would help people stare down the temptation to overeat, help them break free from the guilt cycle, and that my book had psychological tips that were broken down into easy steps that were short, sweet, and to the point. She recommended people buy it.

Up till that point, the book had only sold about one hundred copies. The day it was featured, it sold over 100 and ever since has enjoyed heightened sales.

Is Dr. Laura perfect? No. Being in the public eye, anything she does that is wrong is amplified a thousand times. If you had a camera on you all day long or a voice recorder, would you have to publicly apologize for some of your offensive behavior?
